Creating an intuitive, touch-based user interface for the commercial kitchen

Understanding the kitchen workflow
We began by evaluating Antunes’ earlier touch-based interfaces to get a better picture of the workflow in a commercial kitchen: how does the chef move throughout the kitchen? How much time is there to monitor the screen? What other responsibilities might they have, and how can the UI compliment their tasks?
We documented our analysis with a user journey map: our base representation of the kitchen staff’s workflow. We quickly filled it with notes and arrows as we carved out our design opportunities.
Create
Creating an intuitive, crystal clear interface
Next, we identified the roles of the different people who use the Infinisteam, comparing where their needs align and where they differ. Kitchen management requires a different set of functions compared to a distributer or service technician.
As we began to plot out the basic architecture of the interface, we used these unique requirements as fenceposts for optimizing the layout and prioritizing UI features in our wireframes.
Deliver
A UI designed for speed, efficiency, and simple operation
Our collaboration resulted in something that launches Antunes’ legendary cooking technology into completely new territory, breathing life into their hardware with a fully custom, fully touch-based interface.
With a home screen organized to match the drawer layout on the front of the machine, animations that create a sense of direction as the user moves through the AI, and a carefully crafted visual identity, this interface places Antunes far ahead of the competition.
